Theatre Costumes

Best place to rent costumes for a theatre production?
I am looking towards directing a show next spring and would also have to do all the design work as well, as it is at a small theatre. I was wondering if anyone knows of good places across the States to rent theatrical costumes? I’m stationed in Texas and seeing as I’m on a budget, would most likely only rent 5-7 outfits for my principles. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Aristocrats [VHS] $4.98 At one point during The Aristocrats, the dutiful, devoted, yet rather dim husband of Louisa Lennox cannot find the word to describe the magnificent party they are attending. “Resplendent,” his wife offers. That pretty much describes this impeccably mounted BBC miniseries. Based on the biography by Stella Tillyard, The Aristocrats vividly re-creates “a different world” that would eventually be sha… |

Street Theatre $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Street theatre is a form of theatrical performance and presentation in outdoor public spaces without a specific paying audience. These spaces can be anywhere, including shopping centres, car parks, recreational reserves and street corners. They are especially seen in outdoor spaces where there are large numbers of people. The actors who perform street theatre range from buskers to organised theatre companies or groups that want to experiment with performance spaces, or to promote their mainstream work. Sometimes performers are commissioned, especially for street festivals, childrens shows or parades, but more often street theatre performers are unpaid or gather some income through the dropping of a coin in a hat by the audience. The logistics of doing street theatre necessitate simple costumes and props, and generally there is little or no amplification of sound, with actors depending on their natural vocal and physical ability. This issue with sound has meant that physical theatre, including dance, mime and slapstick, is a very popular genre in an outdoor setting. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 72 Publication Date: 2010/09/11 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.17 inches |

Staging (Theatre) $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Staging is the process of selecting, designing, adapting to, or modifying the performance space for a play or film. This includes the use or absence of stagecraft elements as well as the structure of the stage and its components. Staging is also used to mean the result of this process, in other words the spectacle that a play presents in performance, its visual detail. This can include such things as positions of actors on stage (often referred to as blocking), their nonverbal gestures and movements (also called stage business), the scenic background, the props and costumes, lighting, and sound effects. Besides costume, any physical object that appears in a play has the potential to become an important dramatic symbol. The first thing that the audience of a play sees is the stage set, the physical objects that suggest the world of the play. The stage set is usually indicated by the playwright, but the degree of detail and specificity of this rendering vary from one playwright to another and from one literary period to another. In film, staging is generally called set dressing. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 68 Publication Date: 2010/07/16 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.16 inches |
